Ground Screw Installation for Ards and North Down Borough Council Event at Bangor Marina

Project Overview

Ards and North Down Borough Council recently hosted a vibrant outdoor event at Bangor Marina that required a robust and reliable solution for securing a large stretch tent in a car park. Traditional anchoring methods posed challenges due to the site’s existing tarmac surface and the need for minimal disruption of the existing surface. Our team proposed an innovative alternative: ground screws.

Why Ground Screws?

Ground screws offer a fast, eco-friendly, and non-invasive method for anchoring temporary structures such as Stretch tents. Unlike concrete footings or driven stakes, ground screws can be installed quickly with minimal equipment and removed without leaving a trace—perfect for public spaces and heritage-sensitive sites.

Installation Highlights

  • Location: Council-owned car parking space at Bangor Marina
  • Structure: 12m x 15m stretch tent for event shelter
  • Anchoring Solution: 10 ground screws installed at key tension points
  • By using Ground screws we were able to provide a solution away from the normal concrete bollards
  • With a M16 fixing point in the middel of the screw, the Stretch tent company was able to install an eye bolt to tie their tent to year on year reducing cost for the council
  • Timeframe: Installed in under 2 hours with no ground excavation

Outcome

The ground screws provided exceptional holding strength, keeping the stretch tent stable throughout the event despite changing weather conditions. The installation was clean and efficient, with the M16 fixing point easily removed and leaving ground screws ready for reuse at future events. The solution also met all safety and accessibility standards required for public gatherings.
